How do happy, loving, heterosexual relationships/marriages benefit the human species?

This is a question which was asked of me on a conference call with the CEO of the dating service I work for. He is looking for the opinions of all the employees and wants us to come up with a paragraph, documentation, something to prove why it is beneficial. Are there any sites out there which can prove this? Obviously an unhappy marriage can be detrimental, but how can a happy marriage be more beneficial than if you were single? Are there certain statistics to prove this theory?

Besides ensuring the continuation of the species, happy married people live longer, are sick away from work less, and are more productive than their unhappy, unmarried counterparts.

Where you want to do your research is not on the internet, but using a scholarly database such as PSYCInfo, ERIC, ProQuest, or JSTOR.

most universities will allow you use their on-site computers to do such research.

some offer off-site connections but that's rare if you are not a student.

good luck!

Three things:

1. It has been proven that people in healthy, permanent relationships live longer. You can google that fact.

2. It has been proven that people in healthy, permanent relationships raise children who are more stable and successful. There are exceptions to this rule, though, because it is based on child-rearing and environment that can be impacted by many different factors, but statistically speaking it is easier to manage those factors in a healthy marriage.

3. People who are in "happy, loving" relationships are HAPPY! What else do you want!? LOL!

Does he want opinions, or a factual essay?

I think the best answer you could give, assuming it is opinions that he wants, is just what you personally feel. Do you want to get married? If so, why? What makes it beneficial to you? There's your answer.

Statistically, people that are happily married live longer than those that are not married or unhappily married. I don't know where you can find that stat to document it, but I've always heard that to be true.

Why are you restricting this to "heterosexual" marriages????? Why not any marriage?????

Stats prove married people live longer. Then of coarse there are the babies. As someone who has been divorced for about 14 years, completely alone and celibate for the last 5 years it sucks!

Are teachers sidestepping annual testing with ridiculous excuses and their past achievements?

I have her some good arguments from the women, but I really want to hear from the men. We are well informed on the teaching conferences, and the extra so-called money that they have to provide for teaching our children. But once again, we can see that some of them are sidestepping the question, even to the point of insulting others. No wonder why our children have so low self-esteem and low test scores. We are sure that some teachers are attending conferences and later holding seminars at teacher in-service to present to the teachers that did not attend. Let us make ourselves very clear it is not about the teachers, because we see that they are trying to standout in a profession that is meant to teach our children. Our children is what it is all about we don't want to see teachers fired, we just want to know how much our teachers know, especially when our children are failing standard state test. If it insults you, I am sure that you have insulted others, annual testing will happen

im a student, and all i know is that there are plenty of teachers who cant or dont teach. i sure wouldnt mind seeing better teachers. i think it is simply too easy to become an English teacher here. almost anyone can become a teacher

many of them

Beleive you me, if I could sidestep annual testing I would. Any teacher, or administrator would agree that we would trade 6 days of instruction for 6 days of testing. Standardized testing is ludicrous. Do you know how I can side step them.

no

As far as testing yearly for core content knowledge.... it's not that teachers don't think they could pass. We just feel that it would be a waste of our time and money (because guess who would be handed the testing fees... and most tests like that cost anywhere from $50 to $150 each subject), to prove something we already have.

And if you think those state tests for the kids were the teachers' ideas, you are sadly mistaken. They are the product of federal and state legislative and executive decisions, driven by lobbying from test-making companies.

The evaulation of how a school does with these tests is like taking all the heights of adults, and then demanding that all adults grow to be as tall as the "average" person. All children learn at different rates... and "grade-level" skills are based on what the "average" child can learn. Half the kids will be slower than that, and half faster. NCLB wants schools to take the slower half and make them learn faster than their natural ability.

Of course, if teachers "fail" in this, then they can be nicely scapegoated so that the Republicans can cut education out of the federal budget.....

As teachers, we already evaluate our students' progress through our pre- and post-tests, written samples, and observation. The LAW says that kids pass a class at 60% mastery... instead of the state tests we could raise that passing grade to 80% mastery. More kids would repeat grades, but kids would also actually know the content before moving on.

The responsibility for ensuring that veteran teachers are "highly" qualified falls on the principal, the school district, and the teachers themselves. Each year we go through observations, a Professional Development Plan, and an end-of-year evaluation conference with our principals.

If you are so hot under the collar about this because you feel one or more of your own child's teachers don't have adequate content-area knowledge, is to challenge their annual evaluations from their principals... speak to the principal first, and then if you're still not happy with the results take it to Human Resources for your district.

I am a student, and a girl, so I'm obviously not your target audience. But I believe there is too much standardized testing. Many teachers teach the test instead of teaching students what they need to know to succeed next year. I go to a school where you have to test to get in, and if you get two F's in one quarter you flunk out. Everyone passes the tests, that's not a saying, it's a statistic. So in my school, there's no need for them. When tenth graders are required to pass the Ohio Graduation Test, there's no need to make them take a proficiency test. When we take proficiency tests, no one studies, or cares. Students try to take as long as possible to get out of going to class. Some people fall asleep during the tests because the work is so elementary.

We need to encourage teachers to teach what is needed for the students to succeed in the next year, not just to get high scores.

Probably. Most anyone that can get out of taking a test, will.

"I have heard some..."

"such low self-esteem"

"our children ARE what it is all about..."

The whole paragraph is hard to read, but I'm not an English teacher. But I think in trying to engage with teachers you should check your grammar and sentence structure.

Click here to learn how to dial numbers correctly.............whats the deal it was working fine last month and now its crap. I rely on this phnoe to keep my cell phone bill down on conference calls and I am really irrattated that its not working right now... I upgraded my yahoo messenger to 9.0 and it sell did not work. WTF?? Lets get these soft wear guru guys working overtime and pay them some big bucks to get this bug worked out.... thank you for letting me vent. Chuck Daivd

The correct spelling is sudden.

I've had the same issue for the past few days. I've contacted Yahoo and was told to contact Jajah, whom Yahoo had subcontracted the voice service to. I've contacted them with Live chat a few times and the only answer I get is make sure there is no firewall, and update Yahoo to the newest version. Nothing makes any difference... I have multiple computers and they all stopped working with voice calls at the same time. I cannot get any support from anyone and the only answers are canned responses.... If anyone has any idea, I'm open for suggestions..

Did Bush get upset at an Iraqi reporter throwing his shoes at him & calling Bush a dog?

An Iraqi television news reporter threw his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush and called him a "dog" in Arabic, during a press conference in Baghdad on Sunday, U.S. television station ABC has reported.

Iraqi security officers and U.S. secret service agents leapt at the man and dragged him struggling and screaming out of the room where Bush was giving a news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

The shoes missed their target about 15 feet away. One sailed over Bush's head as he stood next to Maliki and smacked into the wall behind him. Bush smiled uncomfortably and Maliki looked strained.

"It doesn't bother me," Bush said, urging everyone to calm down as a ruckus broke out in the conference room

I'm sure it doesn't bother him. Innocent lives being killed doesn't bother him either.

As a sidelight, security officials had to restrain Bush from fetching the shoes....

I don't think he did, however I'm sure the security guys are

That is Bush at his best, actually.

However, it doesn't begin to make up for what he did to our economy and Constitution.

I really doubt it doesn't bother Bush!!!!!

I find it interesting that Bush never said, "I'm sorry he feels that way." After all, Bush feels like he saved the guy's country, and the guy obviously doesn't appreciate it.

Egyptian,

I bet he wouldn't have thrown it at Saddam.

So he is just another coward, looking for press with no consequences.

Sounds awful familiar to what happens in this country.

He's probably scared of being on trial for war crimes. I bet it'll happen regardless, but he might be being kind to make the world ease up on him. If he would've acted angrily towards the Iraqi reporter, he might've been hated even more by Americans, and the rest of the world, even more than now. Because he's an ASSHOLE.

Of course it didn't bother the President of he United States. Liberal assholes and democrat morons do worse every minute...

What can you do if your attorney doesnt respond to emails or calls?

My divorce atty. has sent me a bill for services but is not

moving on my case. He doesnt return my emails or calls. He sent someone in his place for my marriage resolution conference who was horrible. My spouse has sent a proposal letter and I have told my atty to respond but he hasnt. What can I do to refute the unfair charges and how can I lodge a complaint to the bar against him?

Contact the bar association in the state you live in and file a complaint...... also call your attorney and ask him (I am not kidding) if his malpractice insurance is paid) then see if you get any action.....

Walk into the office and get a face to face appointment to see him..Book it with the secretary..If it gets canceled GET a new attorney..The guy is obviously too busy to take your case seriously and has put you on a back burner...

Let your new lawyer to contest his bill....

Good Luck

No work...no money.

In adition each state has a Bar Association. I suggest you make a complaint instead of goofing around here.

When I was getting divorced, this happened to me time and time again. I went through, I think, at least 3 lawyers until I found a good one. All lawyers out there, WHAT'S UP WITH THAT??? This whole situation beats me, if any lawyers out there can enlighten us, please let me us know.

You can call the local bar assoc. and tell them you want to file a complaint, it is really that easy.. then get another attorney right away in regards to the divorce.. the second attorney may be able to help with any charges against the first attorney.. then just give them both your bank account information, cause they are gonna take it all..

I would check this person out. Doesn't sound like he has your best interest at heart.

Who gets the 50% of all donations to Republicans? special press conference with Michael Scheuer,CIA head?

By now it’s old news that presidential candidate Ron Paul, the ten-term congressman from Texas, has more cash on hand than does the floundering John McCain â€" whose campaign staffers are fleeing as fast as they can.

Now that doesn’t make any sense at all, if the neoconservative crazies who dominate conservative media are to be believed. Since Ron Paul criticizes U.S. foreign policy, and since he has this oddball idea that bombing and starving people can make them angry, he isn’t a "patriot" like them. So resolutely have they bought into the silly fiction that "we are the government," these cheerleaders for the warfare state actually seem to take personal offense at Paul’s criticism of U.S. government policies.

Once in a while I can’t resist and wind up posting a defense of Ron Paul in the comments section of a hostile blog. I’ve been called a "liberal" more times than I can count by people who evidently know nothing about the actual history of liberalism, conservatism, and libertarianism in America. (Liberalism’s relatively lackluster antiwar record and the totally forgotten presence of an anti-state, antiwar tradition in America â€" of which Congressman Paul is our greatest representative today.)

Days after the fateful South Carolina debate in which Ron Paul refused to flatter and patronize the American people, instead explaining to them the concept of "blowback" (that foreign intervention can lead to unintended, undesirable consequences), the Texas congressman held a special press conference with Michael Scheuer, the former head of the CIA’s bin Laden unit. Scheuer, incidentally, is a conservative who has never voted for a non-Republican candidate.

The event should have received more attention than it did â€" since Scheuer was there to say that Dr. Paul had been exactly right in his exchange with Rudy Giuliani:

More details : read more :

There are now ten Republican candidates in the field and there are eight Democrats. Seventeen of them are not at all a worry to Osama bin Laden and what he represents…. Dr. Paul has hit on exactly the only indispensable ally that al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, and their allies have, and that’s U.S. foreign policy.

It is a patent absurdity on the part of the governing establishment in the United States to believe that the war we are engaged in at the moment has anything to do with our freedoms, our democracy, gender equality, or my having a Budweiser after work…. This war has to do with our foreign policy and its impact in the Islamic world. That has nothing to do with judging the moral or monetary or political worth of our policies. It’s simply to understand what motivates our enemy.

Scheuer went on to recount the Ayatollah Khomeini’s abject failure over the course of a decade to instigate a jihad against America on account of our debauchery, our entertainment, our women in the workplace, and the like. It was a complete flop. No one blew himself up because of R-rated movies.

What made Osama bin Laden’s message attractive, on the other hand, was precisely that it was defensive in nature, focusing on specific grievances that resonated with his Muslim audience. (Scheuer discusses all six of them in his interview, which I urge people to listen to.) That, and not a war against the West over its decadence, is what won recruits. In other words, we may in fact be dealing not with comic-book villains but with actual human beings.

"It’s very common for the slurs to be thrown when you say something like this," Scheuer hastened to add. "You’re an appeaser, you’re an anti-American. I think it’s a shame, but the governing establishment wants to protect itself. It does not want to talk about these issues…. I think Dr. Paul has done a tremendous service to the American people." It is important to debate American foreign policy for a change, he said. "At the end of the debate, Americans may decide that the foreign policy status quo that exists at the moment is what they want. But if they do, they will at least go into it with their eyes open, and know that they are in for an extended period of war, a tremendously bloody and costly war."

In an interview with Antiwar Radio several days before the press conference, Scheuer said: "I thought Mr. Paul captured it the other night exactly correctly. This war is dangerous to America because it’s based, not on gender equality, as Mr. Giuliani suggested, or any other kind of freedom, but simply because of what we do in the Islamic world â€" because ‘we’re over there,’ basically, as Mr. Paul said in the debate."

To be sure, Scheuer observed, Muhammad described the end state of Islam on earth as a caliphate in which the whole world would be Muslim. But "there’s as much chance of that happening in any kind of foreseeable future as the application of the Golden Rule, and ‘turn the other cheek’ and ‘love thy neighbor’ in the Christian world. There’s no chance. Bin Laden is popular and his message resonates because it is a defensive message. It is very much a message of ‘get out and leave us to our own problems.’"

He continued:

About the only thing that can hold together the very loose coalition that Osama bin Laden has assembled is a common Muslim hatred for the impact of U.S. foreign policy…. They all agree they hate U.S. foreign policy. To the degree we change that policy in the interests of the United States, they become more and more focused on their local problems: attacking the Philippine government, attacking the Saudi government or the Egyptian government….

Mr. Paul spoke not only the truth, but he spoke in the interests of the American people. And from the right and from the left he got chopped up. And at the end of the day you admire Mr. Paul’s courage but what you fear for is the security of America, because the people who attacked Mr. Paul are much more concerned with staying in power than they are with protecting my family and yours.

Unfortunately, what Mr. Paul is saying…will become so clear to the American people the next time Osama bin Laden attacks inside the United States and we have a disaster bigger than 9/11. And then the talk of "they hate us for primary elections" and "they hate us for gender equality" â€" that will go out the window, and maybe we can get down to brass tacks after we have multiple tens of thousands of dead Americans.

Antiwar Radio's Scott Horton also interviewed former CIA counter-terrorism officer Philip Giraldi, who largely shared Scheuer’s assessment:

I think anybody who knows anything about what’s been going on for the last ten years would realize that cause and effect are operating here â€" that, essentially, al Qaeda has an agenda which very specifically says what its grievances are. And its grievances are basically that "we’re over there."

So all Ron Paul was basically saying was that â€" even as the 9/11 commission report indicated â€" there were consequences for our presence in the Middle East and if we seriously want to address the terrorism problem we have to be serious about that issue.

Giuliani indicated that he was not only not serious about that issue, but seemed to be ignorant of both the 9/11 [Commission] report and political realities in the Middle East.

Ray McGovern, a 27-year veteran of the CIA, said largely the same thing, telling Horton: "I’m really edified by Ron Paul stepping up and stating what he believes to be the case. If you believe that they hate us for our democracy or for our freedoms, well I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn that I’d really like to sell you at a cut rate. They hate us for our policies and that’s what Ron Paul was saying.… Giuliani…really showed his true colors there as a demagogue."

All three interviews are well worth listening to â€" as is everything Scott Horton has ever put on the radio, in my opinion. (These interviews and more are linked here.)

If you want to be talked down to and spoken to in slogans, there is no shortage of opportunities in today’s America. Ron Paul, on the other hand, on this as on everything else, refuses to pander to anyone, and tells the truth as he sees it. (He once told an audience filled with NASA employees that he had consistently voted against their programs â€" a typical and unremarkable episode for an honest man like Paul.)

Which kind of candidate we wind up with will tell us a lot about the state of our country.

Thomas E. Woods,

Political parties help fund a lot of electoral campaigns from key regional races to national races, but also spend a lot of money directly campaigning. One typical example are attack ads in Presidential campaigns. An individual candidate does not want to appear mean, so usually the attack ads run on their behalf come from the party or a PAC.

Teleconference service with "small group vs. large group" switching?

We'd like to set up teleconferences where (for example) we have six groups of four people on the phone. In the "small group" setting when each person talks they only hear people in their small group. When we switch to "large group" then everyone can hear each other.

We could do it by patching together different sets of conference calls, but I'm wondering if there is a service that has these features. I'm imagining a web interface where we can group and ungroup people.

There are other features we'd want (hit a certain code to dial the leader of the call from the small group for example). There are a lot of teleconference companies out there ... who has the most advanced features in this area?

How to make a great pitch in telemarketing business?

I am working for a telemarketing company. promoting my conference. I find it so hard to deal with sometime.

I hate bothering people with phone call i've made.

However, some people do find the service we provide are useful.

So, I am asking you guys when or how you feel when you got a call offering you a product? which way is the better way? how to attract you?

Thank youu

If people can use your service, you are not bothering them rather you are helping them. Cold calling telemarketing is not about "making the sale" rather it's about making connections and having a professional level conversation. I have noticed that someone else has responded with a recommendation to network and while networking can help make connections, the process cannot be utilized to scale your growth efforts.

Cold call telemarketing however can. They key is to provide value for your target audience.

B2B Telemarketing the typical way is a painful struggle. But you can make it a productive and positive experience by changing your mindset and cold calling the 'right way by deploying effective professional marketing and sales strategies.

To show you what I mean, here are 7 tested cold calling ideas that even the 'so called' sales gurus often just don't get.

1. Change Your Mental Objective Before You Make the Call

If you're like most people who make cold calls, you're hoping to make a sale -- or at least an appointment -- before you even pick up the phone. The problem is, the people you call somehow always pick up on your mindset immediately. They sense that you're focused on your goals and interests, rather than on finding out what they might need or want. This short-circuits the whole process of communication and trust-building.

Here's the benefit of changing your mental objective before you make the call: it takes away the frenzy of working yourself up mentally to pick up the phone. All the feelings of rejection and fear come from us getting wrapped up in our expectations and hoping for an outcome when it's premature to even be thinking about an outcome.

So try this. Practice shifting your mental focus to thinking, "When I make this call, I'm going to build a conversation so that a level of trust can emerge allowing us to exchange information back and forth so we can both determine if there's a fit or not."

2. Understand the Mindset of the Person You're Calling

Let's say you're at your office and you're working away. Your phone rings and someone says, "Hello, my name's Mike. I'm with Financial Strategies Inc. We offer a broad array of financial solutions. Do you have a few minutes?" What would go through your mind? Probably something like this: "Uh-oh, another salesperson. I'm about to be sold something. How fast can I get this person off the phone?"

In other words, it's basically over at "Hello," and you end up rejected. The moment you use the typical telemarketing/cold calling approach -- the traditional pitch about who you are and what you have to offer, which all the so-called sales gurus have been teaching for years -- you trigger the negative "salesperson" stereotype in the mind of the person you've called, and that means immediate rejection.

I call it "The Wall." The problem is with how you're selling, not what you're selling. This is an area that's been ignored in the world of selling. We've all been trained to try to push prospects into a "yes" response on the first call. But that creates sales pressure. But, if you learn to really understand and put yourself in the mindset of the person you call, you'll find it easier to avoid triggering The Wall. It's that fear of rejection that makes cold calling so frightening. Instead, start thinking about language that will engage people and not language that will trigger rejection.

3. Identify a Core Problem That You Can Solve

We've all learned that when we begin a conversation with a prospect, we should talk about ourselves, our product, and our solution. Then we sort of hope that the person connects with what we've just told them. Right?

But when you offer your pitch or your solution without first involving your prospect by talking about a core problem that they might be having, you're talking about yourself, not them. And that's a problem.

Prospects connect when they feel that you understand their issues before you start to talk about your solutions. When people feel understood, they don't put up The Wall. They remain open to talking with you.

Here's an example based on my own experience. I offer Uncover Your Potential as a new approach in lead generation. When I call a vice president of sales, I would never start out with, "Hi, my name is Kenn, I'm with Questkey Marketing Group, and I offer the newest technique in b2b lead generation, and I wonder if you have a few minutes to talk now."

Instead, I wouldn't even pick up the phone without first identifying one or more problems that I know VPs often have with their sales teams and lead generation. Problems that Questkey can solve.

For example, one common problem is when sales teams and salespeople spend time chasing prospects who have no intention of buying.

So I would start by asking, "Are you grappling with issues around your sales team chasing prospects who lead them on without any intention of buying?"

So, come up with two or three specific core problems that your product or service solves. (Avoid generic problem phrases like "cut costs" or "increase revenue." They're too vague.)

4. Start With a Dialogue, Not a Presentation

Let's return to the goal of a b2b telemarketing cold call, which is to create a two-way dialogue engaging prospects in a conversation. We're not trying to set the person up for a yes or no. That's the typical way of cold calling. An effective b2b telemarketing/cold calling approach is designed to engage people in a natural conversation. The kind you might have with a friend. This lets you both of you decide whether it's worth your time to pursue the conversation further.

The key here is never to assume beforehand that your prospect should buy what you have to offer, even if they're a 100 percent fit with the profile of the "perfect customer." If you go into the call with that assumption, prospects will pick up on it and The Wall will go up, no matter how sincere you are.

Avoid assuming anything about making a sale before you make a call.

For one thing, you have no idea whether prospects can buy what you have because you know nothing about their priorities, their decisionmaking process, their budget, etc. If you assume that you're going to sell them something on that first call, you're setting yourself up for failure. That's the core problem with traditional b2b telemarketing/cold calling. Stay focused on opening a dialogue and determining if it makes sense to continue the conversation.

5. Start With Your Core Problem Question

Once you know what problems you solve, you also know exactly what to say when you make a call. It's simple. You begin with, "Hi, my name is Kenn. Maybe you can help me out for a moment." How would you respond if someone said that to you? Probably, "Sure, how can I help you?" or "Sure, what do you need?" That's how most people would respond to a relaxed opening phrase like that. It's a natural reaction.

The thing is, when you ask for help, you're also telling the truth because you don't have any idea whether you can help them or not. That's why this approach is based on honesty and truthfulness. That's why you're in a very good place to begin with. When they reply, "Sure, how can I help you?," you don't respond by launching into a pitch about what you have to offer. Instead, you go right into talking about the core problem to find out whether it's a problem for the prospect. So you say, "I'm just giving you a call to see if you folks are grappling (and the key word here is 'grappling') with any issues around your sales team chasing prospects who turn out to never have any intention of buying?"

No pitch, no introduction, nothing about me. I just step directly into their world.

The purpose of my question is to open the conversation and develop enough trust so they'll feel comfortable having a conversation. The typical way of cold calling advises asking lots of questions to learn about the prospect's business and to "connect." The problem is that people see right through that. They know that you have an ulterior motive, and then you're right back up against The Wall. These ideas may be hard for you to apply to your own situation at first because trying to leverage calls based on what we know about our solution is so engrained in our thinking.

If you stay with it, though, you can learn to step out of your own solution and convert it into a problem that you can articulate using your prospects' language. And that's the secret of building trust on calls. It's the missing link in the whole process of cold calling.

6. Recognize and Diffuse Hidden Pressures

Hidden sales pressures that makes The Wall go up can take a lot of forms.

For example, "enthusiasm " can send the message that you're assuming that what you have is the right fit for the prospect. That can send pressure over the phone to your prospect. You must be able to engage people in a natural conversation. Think of it as calling a friend. Let your voice be natural, calm, relaxed, easy-going. If you show enthusiasm on your initial call, you'll probably trigger the hidden sales pressure that triggers your prospect to reject you.

Another element of hidden pressure is trying to control the call and move it to a "next step". The moment you begin trying to direct your prospect into your "sales process ", there is a very high likelihood that you can "turn off" your prospect's willingness to share with you the details of their situation.

It's important to allow the conversation to evolve naturally and to have milestones or checkpoints throughout your call so you can assess if there is a fit between you and the person you are speaking with.

7. Determine a Fit

Now, suppose that you're on a call and it's going well, with good dialogue going back and forth. You're reaching a natural conclusion and what happens? In the typical way of b2b telemarketing/cold calling, we panic. We feel we're going to lose the opportunity, so we try to close the sale or at least to book an appointment. But this puts pressure on the prospect, and you run the risk of The Wall going up again.

Here's a step that most people miss when they cold call. As soon as they realize that prospects have a need for their solution, they start thinking, "Great, that means they're interested." What they don't ask is, "Is this need a top priority for you or your organization to solve, or is it something that's on the back burner for a while?"

In other words, even if you both determine that there ia a problem you can solve, you have to ask whether solving it is a priority. Sometimes there's no budget, or it isn't the right time. It's important that you find this out, because months later you'll regret not knowing this earlier.

Putting the Pieces Together

Have you ever wondered where the "numbers game" concept came from? It came from someone making a call, getting rejected, and the boss saying, "Call someone else."

But with an effective way of b2b telemarketing/cold calling, it's not about how many people you call. It's about what you say and how you come across. Do you remember the definition of insanity-continuing to do the same thing but expecting different results?

If you go on using the same old b2b telemarketing/cold calling methods, you'll go on experiencing the ever-increasing pain of selling. But if you adopt a new approach and learn how to remove pressure from your initial cold calls, you'll experience so much success and satisfaction that it'll really change the way you do business, bring you sales success beyond your imagination-and eliminate "rejection" from your vocabulary for good.

If you need any other help, or would like some coaching in this are please do not hesitate to contact me directly by visiting our website at www.questkey.com.

Cold calling is not my thing. If you want to attract people you have to join a networking group that people can see what you offer. One example is Meetup.com. I have 172 members and I organize it once a month. Try this and you can see a result right away.

Should this man receive a European award for his services to Child welfare?

This is from a poster on the Sky website.

TODAY IN BRUSSELS:

A business man discovered he was going to be at the European Parliament while the conference was going on.

He got his secretary to print out a hundred leaflets, then he stood outside the conference room and handed them out. He got a very positive response and is meeting with some journalists later (at their request.)

This is what the leaflet says:

On 3rd May 2007, Madeleine McCann disappeared from her parents’ holiday apartment at Praia da Luz in Portugal.

Her parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, had left her and her two younger siblings in an unlocked apartment that evening, as they had done every evening of their holiday, in order to enjoy an alcohol-fuelled dinner at the resort Tapas bar, well over a hundred metres away. From the bar, they were unable to have a clear line of sight to the apartment where Madeleine was. They left them unattended, despite their Mark Warner holiday resort offering babysitting services and evening supervision of children.

They claim to have checked on them every half an hour. Yet the statements of the parents and their companions to the police about their movements that night are full of contradictions and obfuscations.

The very instant that Kate McCann discovered that Madeleine was missing, she and her husband Gerry insisted that she had been abducted.

Yet there is little evidence that Madeleine was abducted from the apartment.

Since May 2007, there has been an ongoing investigation by the Policia Judiciária, the Portuguese police (PJ), into Madeleine’s disappearance. The investigation is currently headed personally by Paulo Rebelo, the respected national deputy director of the PJ.

According to information in the Portuguese press, Paulo Rebelo and his team have concluded that the evidence for an abduction is minimal, and that in all probability Madeleine died in the holiday apartment. Their conclusions are based on forensic and other evidence, including evidence collected through the use of UK police sniffer dogs trained in the discovery of cadaver odour. The dogs used by the Portuguese and British police are the same ones which discovered concealed remains in the recent Jersey children’s home case.

On the basis of police evidence and investigations, the parents of Madeleine were constituted suspects (or “arguidos”) by the Portuguese police in September 2007, and then immediately left Portugal for the UK, following police interviews in which they refused to answer key questions put to them by the Portuguese police. They have not returned to Portugal since then.

This week (April 7th-11th 2008), a top-level team of the Policia Judiciara, led by Paulo Rebelo himself, are in the United Kingdom, conducting interviews together with the police of Leicestershire. They are interviewing the companions of the McCanns on the fateful evening, the so-called Tapas 7, because of inconsistencies in their original statements to the police last spring. The Portuguese police suspect that the Tapas 7 are being untruthful in their evidence, and that they have knowledge of what happened to Madeleine that fateful night.

The McCanns personally, and through their media spokesman Clarence Mitchell, have worked hard to discredit the Portuguese police, calling into question their competencies and motives, and insisting that Madeleine remains alive and that the police should be searching for her. The Policia Judiciária are not actively searching for her because they have concluded internally that she has in all probability been dead since May 3rd 2007.

The McCanns have set up a special fund, based on the thesis that Madeleine is alive and needs to be searched for, and which to date has collected over a million pounds (1.5 mln Euro) in donations from the public and libel fees obtained from the Express Newspaper Group. Among the mission statements of the Fund is the aim “to provide support, including financial assistance, to Madeleine’s family.”

Over the last year, the McCann parents have increasingly aligned themselves with lobbying for the Amber Alert system, in place in the US, to be introduced on a Europe-wide basis. They are positioning themselves as global ambassadors for missing children.

As they continue their campaign, many questions need to be asked. They include:

• Why have the McCanns not taken full responsibility for the disappearance of their daughter? Surely what they should be doing is campaigning on the theme of “Do not leave your children unattended in unlocked apartments, whilst you enjoy alcohol-fuelled dinners at a distance where you cannot observe them, as we did”.

• Why have they undertaken a campaign to discredit the Portuguese police, and invested hundreds of thousands of pounds into funding private investigators of dubious reputation (Metodo 3), to maintain the public belief that their daughter is alive? Should they not instead be co-operating in answering the questions of the PJ?

• Why have the McCanns hired, at great expense, top lawyers in the UK and US on matters of extradition, libel and criminal evidence? These include Kingsley Napley, whose Michael Caplan QC fought efforts to extradite General Pinochet from the UK; Carter-Ruck, the UK's most expensive libel lawyers; and Hurley, Burish & Stanton in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, specialising in debunking sniffer dog evidence in criminal trials. Are these the typical actions of parents of missing children?

• Why are the supporters of the Amber Alert system aligning themselves with Kate and Gerry McCann, who remain official suspects (“arguidos”) in an ongoing police investigation, jointly conducted by Portuguese and British police forces? Are these the right role models for ambassadors in the cause of missing children?

There are many more unanswered questions about the disappearance of Madeleine and the activities of her parents since May 2007. The McCanns and their spokesman Clarence Mitchell are working hard to suppress these questions and the debate around them, including having successfully closed down the The Mirror Group internet discussion forum, and forced (via libel proceedings) the Express Group to remove from its internet sites every article that they had published about the McCanns and the Madeleine case since May 2007. The only crime of the internet fora and the Express Group was to republish and comment on stories appearing in the Portuguese media.

Thankfully, it is still possible to debate the McCann case freely and ask the questions that the McCanns, their spokesman, and their expensive lawyers have sought to suppress.

Do we know who he is ?

He speaks as a person who is appalled at the mccanns and their pr machines .

He speaks out in dismay at how the dynamic duo can be speaking on behalf of missing children .

He is the voice of reason and i for one think he should be commended

i dont know if he deserves any awards - but the arguement he makes is compelling

i have always maintained that we should show respect to the portugeuse authorities - they must have reasons for their actions, and hiring expensive legal and PR people does not seem to me to be the actions of distraught parents

all organisations should not ally themselves with this pair until their status is clarified ...

EDIT, lets see how long before he gets sued by above expensive legal team, honestly people - is this how publicly donated money to search for a little girl should be spent ???

Wow Jack is this really true??? If so I would love to shake the mans hand! How refreshing that some one has been brave enough to speak out against these people and their sinister forces! I hope he gets all the publicity in the world because when you read it. it is more frightening to think they are getting away with it!

Well done! Can only give one star!

absolutely, full marks

Yes he should, because he has said what no other Journalist dare say because of the fear of being sued, all he wants is some answers because of a little girl that is missing, and he cares about her. well done polandguy.

YES!

Definitely not! That is just slander!

No.

Does he have access to all police files in this investigation. is he head of some Portuguese/British police department. I'm sure i could write a leaflet with all that is wrong if i based my info on media coverage. The investigation is best left to the professionals and smear campaigns left until there is some solid proof either way as to what happened to Maddie. I'm sure her parents regret their actions, and what a price to pay eh?

EDIT in the event she was abducted. there isn't only one victim, it affects an entire family. how naive are you. you can't go around in life judging every situation and judging people. humans make errors. by naivety of bad choices, that's the way it has been and always will be. lets just say you cross a road with your child and they pull free from you and get hit by a car. whose to blame. you, the child, the driver????

in today's society we are all to blame for Maddie going missing. WE allow sickos, murderers and paedophiles to wander free. nothing s ever done about them. why don't you do something productive to protect kids, you appear to be very concerned, so do something of value instead of posting your comments on here.

you bet ye.

No.

Could it be that we're catching up?

The Kindergarten Continent has always had a good reputation for customer service & here in the Cynical, Jaded and Mean Islands we've always lagged behind on this front.

On the news yesterday it was reported that complaints here from disgruntled bank customers over extortionate bank charges for unauthorised overdrafts, has risen 400pct - could it be that finally, we're waking up to the fact we can as customers demand better, to be treated with respect & not be rooked at every turn?

Apparently, the knock on effect of this huge increase in customer awareness, is that now some 'insiders' in the industry are making noises about 'chargeable' current accounts, as paradoxically, its the 'unauthorised overdrafter' for want of a better phrase that makes it possible for 'free' current accounts to exist in the first place!

Are we going to accept this 'toffee' or demand that chief executives and associated 'suits' have a few less expensive business trips and a few more conference calls?

As long as you live in a region with a free market, you will ALWAYS have powerful market forces whether you see them or not.

I need solution for long distance service for telecommuter. I will use upwards 8000min mth. No VOIP or Cell

I work doing Customer Service.... the company does not pay for long distance to call into the conference bridge to be able to accept calls. Twice now my long distance carrier, Embarq has suspended my service for violation of the unlimited long distance plan both residential and business. I need an affordable solution...or even a metro line to Austin, Texas.

Check out http://www.coxbusiness.com/index.html or http://www.kissld.com

They might have a solution for you.....

I used to have Embarq for my business, and they suspended our service also for excessive usage....

There are not a lot of "affordable" solutions out there...but you should be able to write these costs as business costs anyways.....Yeah stay away from VoIP, we got a dedicated data line with a t1 server, we tried using VoIP and it sucked! The dragged down the quality of our service, bad quality calls, dropped calls....even with a dedicated line VoIP sucks!

http://www.kissld.com/ this is a company wityh unlimited internationally and long distance and local, and are cheap. Good Luck!

Clear case of 'The Pot calling the Kettle Black'?

A Jan. 15 interview with the Indian Catholic, the Internet news service of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, Archbishop Pascal Topno of Bhopal said that he had nothing against “surua namaskar” or other Hindu rituals, but questioned the Madhya Pradesh government's decision to make the practice compulsory in all government schools and colleges.

"People from other communities should be given the freedom and the choice to say ‘no’ to it," said Archbishop Topno, acknowledging that the Catholic Church had not received any direct orders from the government mandating the practice.

Full details at:-

http://www.catholic.org/international/international_story.php?id=22696

What right has the Catholic Church to convert the Hindu Indians?

How many Hindu temples do we know of in Italy, the home of the Catholic Church?

Does not converting Hindus, in their homeland, to Catholocism and then making such statements amount to 'The Pot calling the Kettle Black'?

In India, the moral of Cathos is highest today, thanx to the Congress Prez, an anti Indian Italiano-- Antonia Maino of Orbassano. They can get away with murder, remember the Crook Quattrochhi ?

The sad part is that the congee Hindoos are seeing & clapping the evil woman's excessess against Hindoos.

If the Catho priests do not intensify their conversion activities now, when will they do it ?

No one will be coverted unless they believe the beliefs. Nothing will happen to the priests for not not getting a convert. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070127034031AAnlTCM&kid=NbUvWzO4VTclYcjdKdl1&s=comm&date=2007-01-28+23%3A50%3A13&.crumb=

So, what your saying is - that not having a compulsory Hindu ritual in school will force people into Catholicism? Why not into other religions?

I am a Catholic, and I don't think Catholicism is that insidious. All you're worried about is the threat of other religions on Hinduism. There are Hindu temples in Italy. Look at http://www.hinduism.it/

Isn't that a bit of a leap? I'm not sure how a protest against any compulsory religion in government schools is an attempt to convert people to Catholicism. I'm against prayer in school here in the US, but I'm not trying to convert people to *my* religion.

ya know, I was thinkin about that at a red light, just the other day !

You would be surprised how many Hindu temples there are outside of India. I am not required to worship at one. Neither would I expect any of them to go to Mass with me. I think that the Bishop has a valid point in view of enlightened society.

It's amazing how religions like to call for no government preference when trying to get a foothold into an area, but turn around and call for government preference when they are the majority.

I think that in the US, we only got religious neutrality because there were so many violently opposing religions around at the time. They actually wrote into the Constitution that government should not make laws favoring religion. However, these days, the same religions have more political power and have changed their tune, demanding that government show them preference.

Religions will do anything to get ahead, including using government to promote themselves and tromping on people's rights.

Need 60th birthday party ideas...long distance, we can't travel???

My stepdad is turning 60 in March. He and my mom live in New Jersey. My brother lives in Seattle. My fiance and I live in Western Kansas. My mom's sister lives in Kansas City, and my mom's mom lives in Central Missouri. We are all spread out and traveling is NOT an option. I'm getting married in April, and everyone is traveling for that. No one has the money or the time off work to travel the month before too.

How can we as a family, all at once suprise him and tell him Happy Birthday? Should we all send gifts to arrive at the same day? Can we somehow conference call, is there a service that we can sign up for just one call? I wish we could have a big party, but it's just not possible. I want something with almost as much impact! It's a big birthday, and he's an awesome guy! If anyone has any ideas, let me know!

You should just send cards on the day of, and maybe celebrate his birthday on the same week as your wedding. If not, a conference call is easy, call your service provider to find out how you can have one.

As this is the internet you should invest in skype and web cams all so easy then you can use conference for the birthday party

Make & receive calls from my computer?

I need to find another service where I can make unlimited calls to and from my computer with my choice of phone number (like the famous SkypeIn feature).

I currently have Skype and will have to renew soon if I can't find another feature-rich service. I was hoping to find one with more features like call merge or conference calling.

Does anyone know of any others? I learned Yahoo! IM has a phone feature, but they don't offer unlimited calling.

no

Well I would say that pretty much all of them are like prepaid cell phones. You have to buy minutes. So you're pretty much outta luck with finding a free one.

HELP WITH SOCIAL SERVICES PLEASE?

Six years ago i had 2 childreb adopted , it started out as domestic violence and then my young toddler got a small bruise and they removed my girls and adopted them 8 months later

anyway i now have 2 more kids aged 4 and 16 months , someone rang social services and told them i had 2 more kids , so they did an assesment which was all positive

i have to state that there have been no concerns what so ever from school or health visitors etc and my kids have never had any serious injuries

anyway i saw social services in october and had no contact with themfor 6 weeks , they didnt bother to ring or come round

then yesterday they came round and told me they were calling a child protection conference to see if names go on at risk register

i cannot understand why they are doing this if there are no concerns , they are simply bringing up events from 6 years ago and using the baby p story as an excuse

are they legally allowed to do this when theres no concerns

advice from anyone working in the law industry or with social services appreciated

Lucinda's post is quite correct. Social Services are merely acknowledging that there were some problems in the past. If the children are placed on the "At Risk" register, it means nothing more than that the position will be monitored. There will be periodic reviews and, if the review concludes that there is no further need to monitor, the children will be de-registered.

Given what has happened before, and I imply no criticism of you by this, Social Services would be derelict in their duty if they failed to carry out a case conference. It's a procedural thing, not an accusation.

The real concern here is that you were in an abusive relationship in the past. Unfortunately, statistics show that women who have been in one abusive relationship often drift into others. I am not saying that this is the position with you or that there are any specific concerns at the moment. But if you really care for your children, would you not want the reassurance of knowing that someone else was keeping an eye open for their interests?

I would recommend that you work with Social Services every step of the way. There are actually many in your position who come to regard their social worker as their best friend.

Children can be put on the risk register if things have happened with previous children in the past so they can do it but don't be too worried even if they do because it doesn't mean they think they should be taken away from you, just that if something serious does happen they'll look into it more seriously.

Yes, they can legally start an investigation based on a complaint. However, if they take action against you they have to prove that it was necessary and appropriate. The burden of proof is on them.

It's unreadable because it's 10x too long...it's a letter, not a resume. Remove the narrative and stick to the facts!

- Netel, Nov. 2003 - April 2004

- Customer Service Representative

- Trainer and Quality Assurance Monitor - Responsible for top-producing project, "Tel3Advantage.com"

THAT'S ALL!

•Skilled at organizing complex projects, defining project priorities, and delegating tasks.

•Possess excellent strong time management, organization and presentation skills.

BULL...if you possessed strong organizational and presentaiton skills why is your resume so long.

Keep your subjective claims off the resume...write a fantastic resume and it's self-evident.

Get someone to proofread it for you. First paragraph has several gramatical mistakes.

eg "Upper Management again took notice at my leadership skills" instead of "notice of my leadership"

I don't like the excessive verbage about management taking notice, anyway. You don't need to be so narrative. Nobody screening resumes wants to read that much. BULLET point things.

Keep working on it and get other people to read it.

I agree with several of the other responders:

1) It is TOO LONG and too wordy.

2) It needs serious grammar help.

Shorten it (cut it in half!) and clean up the grammar and you may see a much more positive response.

Best wishes and good luck.

I think it is too wordy. For the Netel job, it should be bullet points instead of that first paragraph. Ideally, it should be all bullet points. Leave the paragraphs for the cover letter. Also, I think the objective should be at the top.

Also there are a few errors in the resume. Here are some corrections:

"Monitor, record and give daily feedback to all representatives on my team."

"took notice of my leadership skills"

"•Compiled commission and entered data, computed, processed and paid out commissions earned weekly. "

"Called past AT&T customers and provided in depth reasons for returning ..."

If I were to receive a resume like this I would call you for an interview. The only thing I would change is the last bullet - Possess excellent strong time management - pick excellent or strong.

Will this Cyberpad or similar digital pen products be able to work with OneNote?

Will this Cyberpad or similar digital pen products be able to work with OneNote?

Will this Cyberpad be able to work with OneNote and hence a tablet pc substitute?

Hi all,

My first tabletPC is now broken. It is a Toshiba Tecra M4.

It refused to reboot any more.

The Toshiba custom service has been very bad, even hung up my phone...

I am now seriously weighing whether to buy a new tablet PC or just a normal laptop.

My use of tablet PC was mainly to hold conference calls with colleagues and friends using OneNote. Writing notes on screen and keeping notes for later reference was excellent.

I want to ask if CyberPad or similar products can work

with MS OneNote on a normal laptop so that I can write into OneNote in real time while holding conference calls? The counterparty needs to be able to see my writing in real time so that our conference call will be meaningful...

http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/29/...

Please give me some opinions. Thanks!

http://www.blueeuclid.com/cyberconverter.html

That link will take you to a site that offers a program that will allow the Cyberpad to be used with Onenote.

Although, I've been reading a bit and it seems that the Cyberpad will work with onenote without it.

Either way, it looks like the Cyberpad will indeed work with onenote.

I have been using Evernote, which is a really easy and nice program for notetaking, but the organization aspect could use some work.

If you are wondering how well the Cyberpad works...I give it a 9 out of 10. I can't work without it, and I don't write anything if I don't write it on the Cyberpad.

Should I tip for room service?

I am staying at the Hilton in Athens and ordered room service. I am already paying 17.50 euro for a pizza, 12.00 euro for a lemon tarte, and 6.50 euro for a glass of ice tea. The room service has a deliver charge of 8.00 euro - do I still tip on top of that? I don't normally order room service but I am in the middle of a conference call so I don't have much of a choice.

Thanks.

It's a good idea to tip if you don't want to eat Spit-Pizza with Spit-Ice Tea.

And it's right what the other poster says, delivery people get nothing from all that over-priced stuff. So you can expect them to be not very happy if you don't tip.

I would go by what is normally customary in the country where you are. If tipping is customary then I would definitely tip the staff but if it isn't and in their country it is considered rude (like your paying because the service isn't good enough) then I would not. If you're totally unsure you can call downstairs to the desk to see what is customary.

No different than if you go to an over priced restaurant or order in a pizza at home.....you always tip the delivery person. They have nothing to do with the prices that are being charged so don't stiff them for a tip because of that. If you don't tip then likely if you order room service next time it will take a very long time to get it and even if you do like the other person posted you could have spit-iced tea, etc.

Unfortunately, it is expected and one of the reasons I never order room service. It is overpriced and usually inferior food. If there is a delivery charge, I would not feel the need to tip as much, but some sort of tip would still be expected.

a tip is usually included in room service in addition to the other charges tacked on. i usually tip a few extra dollars on top of that anyway. but i as with all tipping, it is not required.

It is typical to tip the person who delivers. Just because you are being over charged by the hotel doesnt mean that the person delivering your food is getting a cut of it.

I usually always tip over the recommended 15%. But if they tack on a delivery charge. Well that is all they get.

yup i agree with JC

What does "Closely held Vapps" mean as in:?

Closely held Vapps, of Hoboken, New Jersey, has a plan to offset the cost of providing free conference calls by offering related premium services, including conference call recording, playback and 24-hour operator support for arranging calls.

The definition of "closely held"

A corporation for which most of the voting stock is held by a small number of shareholders, but which is still publicly traded. These shares are generally not available to the public, and given the fact that there are few shareholders, the shares are usually very thinly traded.

"Vapps"

Vapps is the leading, global provider of VoIP audio conferencing services and systems.

If my company credit card goes to collection can I use a debt consolidation service to pay it off?

I ended up using my company credit card for personal use while on medical leave. I was not able to pay it off completely right away and it was sent to a collection agency. I have a very nasty debt collector calling me all the time now (which is to be expected) but her story seems to change so I'm not sure if she's being honest or using scare tactics.

I contacted a debt management program and am working on paying off the debt over the next 12 months. Meanwhile, this woman keeps calling me and now she's apparently (according to her latest voice-mail) set up a conference call with my corp office tomorrow.

I'm just wondering if there's some reason using a lump sum settlement won't work on a corporate card?

Debt Settlement, also called debt negotiation is an arrangement between a debtor and a creditor to repay a debt generally for a for a lowered payoff amount. When a debtor is not able to pay the debt any more for any reasons, debt settlement is the only option that remains.

Generally, only unsecured debts, like those accrued with credit cards , can be negotiated for settlement. This is because of the fact that there is no security attached with unsecured debts. Hence, the lender can't repossess anything. On the other hand secured debts, like home loans, mortgages, car loans etc. have a collateral attached to them and can be repossessed by the lender if a default on debt occurs. So, there is no debt settlement or negotiation with secured debts. Read more about it at: http://www.credit-card-gallery.com/article/216,The_secret_of_successful_debt_settlement

You can visit http://www.cashguru.info and find very useful tips and several articles on debt consolidation. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070429202622AAUYkPF&kid=LJImJ27tMG3yZ40caaO8&s=comm&date=2007-07-03+07%3A17%3A16&.crumb=

if your going to do a debt consolidation loan why would you not include this credit card?

Depends upon your company's policy on personal credit card use. Some companies do not allow it and there can be consequences (lose your job, garnish your wages). Can't you borrow from a bank to settle the card?

why not use debt consolidation to pay it off BEFORE it goes to collection?

see if your company can help you out. it is there card if you default.

Advice on business deal regarding part ownership for services?

I had a conference call with a company/website who are looking to use my services on the project in return for 4% ownership. So far the project has $22 Million in investment and will be launched this year they will also be getting another $30 Million in what they called "Series A" investment in 2009. They expect the site will be huge by summer 2010. I'm not receiving a salary on the project and can not sell my share until at least 2010.

Now according to the sites CEO this is common place because so far all the money in the project is investment so no revenue is being generated as yet, although he says I can use my shares as an asset based on the current value of the project so 4% or $22M now and $52M in 2009.

Its basically a consultants role so not a lot of hands on work so I'll probably go for it but based on the model can anybody give me an idea of how to deal with it other then sell as quick as I can in 2010.

Is it possible to connect outgoing and ingoing calls as a conference?

I have a Panasonic KX-TG5631 and Vonage phone service. I am able to connect 2 other caller into conference mode however the catch is that I have to call them

I have a cell phone with Sprint which allows me to connect both incoming and outgoing calls into conference mode.

Does anybody know of any phone that would allow me to connect outgoing/incoming calls into a conference?

I would have several uses for the use like this and it would be really helpful as I run a business and I do conference calls several times a day. Anybody know if this is possible with a cordless phone similiar to the Panasonic we are using, or does the change need to be from our service provider to allow incoming/outgoing calls to conference?

I am not aware of a phone that will allow that, however conferencing services allow you to both dial out and receive conference calls at any time as well as send e-mails to potential participants to join a conference call if you can't get them via phone

it is possible on some phones take the iphone for example u can do that but with your phone i dont know if its possible

HOW Do I Get Ten WAY or Conference line so I can Talk to ten people at one time?

I have at&t phone service i have three way but only three of us can talk do they have something called ten way so ten of us can talk. What about a conference line so i can call as many people as i want. I want to talk to ten people at one time how can i do so on the house phone.

skype.com can do 9-way. FOR FREE.

really good sound.

and you can talk and type at the same time.

did i say, FOR FREE?

with the Polycom you can up to 12 ppl on the line, also video, wired, or wireless...

http://www.hellodirect.com/hellodirect/Shop?DSP=30109&PCR=1:1:5:10:430&IID=SS2Wireless&itemskuid=12128

there are voice chat rooms, and conference numbers that you can call sometimes called a voice bridge or whatever... everyone would call into this line and everyone would be able to talk with eachother...

another option would be for you to use your 3 way, then someone else to use there 3 way (this would bring it to 5 people) then another person to use there 3 way (up to 7 people now) then 2 more people to use there 3 way (now you have 11 people) you can keep going and going untill you have as many people on the line as you want...

Messenger Voice - Conference Calls - Three people who regulary use Messenger voice one to one successfully.?

However, when we attempt a Conference Call none of us are able to access voice contact and resort to conference writing. In the past I have participated in conference calls so is this a recent problem which is temporary or perhaps now a service that has been discontinued.

All our microphones work and are used daily.

Does anyone know the answer? I would be much obliged if you could let me know.

TeleConference Call Service in India?

I am looking for a conference call service in India that is pay per use. I should be able to set up a conference call, invite a number of people ( say 10) and they will call in to the number and enter a pin code and be allowed to participate.

Please note that Skype or similar PC based solutions have nt worked for us very well as I find the quality of those services is variable. I am looking for the clarity and predictability of the land line service, and willing to pay per minute charges for certain important business meetings.

Thank you for the any pointers.

Help i have no idea wat this means some body explain in short text 10 points best answer in plain explantion?

Overview

Instant messaging (IM) and chat are technologies that facilitate near real-time text based communication between two or more participants over a network. It is important to understand that what separates chat and instant messaging from technologies such as e-mail is the perceived synchronicity of the communication by the user - Chat happens in real-time before your eyes. For this reason, some people consider communication via instant messaging to be less intrusive than communication via phone. However, some systems allow the sending of messages to people not currently logged on (offline messages), thus removing much of the difference between Instant Messaging and e-mail.

Instant Messaging allows instantaneous communication between a number of parties simultaneously, by transmitting information quickly. Some IM systems allow users to use webcams and Microphone which made them more popular than others. Due to this feature users can have a real-time conversation. In addition IM has additional features such as: the immediate receipt of acknowledgment or reply, group chatting, conference services (including voice and video), conversation logging and file transfer.

IM allows effective and efficient communication, featuring immediate receipt of acknowledgment or reply. In certain cases Instant Messaging involves additional features, which make it even more popular, i.e. to see the other party, e.g. by using web-cams, or to talk directly for free over the Internet.

It is possible to save a conversation for later reference. Instant messages are typically logged in a local message history which closes the gap to the persistent nature of e-mails and facilitates quick exchange of information like URLs or document snippets (which can be unwieldy when communicated via telephone).

[edit] History

In early instant messaging programs each character appeared when it was typed. The UNIX "talk" command shown in these screenshots was popular in the 1980s and early 1990s.Instant messaging actually predates the Internet, first appearing on multi-user operating systems like CTSS and Multics[1] in the mid-1960s. Initially, many of these systems, such as CTSS'.SAVED, were used as notification systems for services like printing, but quickly were used to facilitate communication with other users logged in to the same machine. As networks developed, the protocols spread with the networks. Some of these used a peer-to-peer protocol (eg talk, ntalk and ytalk), while others required peers to connect to a server (see talker and IRC). During the Bulletin board system (BBS) phenomenon that peaked during the 1980s, some systems incorporated chat features which were similar to instant messaging; Freelancin'_Roundtable was one prime example.

In the last half of the 1980s and into the early 1990s, the Quantum Link online service for Commodore 64 computers offered user-to-user messages between currently connected customers which they called "On-Line Messages" (or OLM for short). Quantum Link's better known later incarnation, America Online, offers a similar product under the name "AOL Instant Messages" (AIM). While the Quantum Link service ran on a Commodore 64, using only the Commodore's PETSCII text-graphics, the screen was visually divided up into sections and OLMs would appear as a yellow bar saying "Message From:" and the name of the sender along with the message across the top of whatever the user was already doing, and presented a list of options for responding.[2] As such, it could be considered a sort of GUI, albeit much more primitive than the later Unix, Windows and Macintosh based GUI IM programs. OLMs were what Q-Link called "Plus Services" meaning they charged an extra per-minute fee on top of the monthly Q-Link access costs.

Modern, Internet-wide, GUI-based messaging clients, as they are known today, began to take off in the mid 1990s with ICQ (1996) being the first, followed by AOL Instant Messenger (AOL Instant Messenger, 1997). AOL later acquired Mirabilis, the creators of ICQ. A few years later ICQ (by now owned by AOL) was awarded two patents for instant messaging by the U.S. patent office. Meanwhile, other companies developed their own applications (Excite, MSN, Ubique, and Yahoo), each with its own proprietary protocol and client; users therefore had to run multiple client applications if they wished to use more than one of these networks. In 1998 IBM released IBM Lotus Sametime, a product based on technology acquired when IBM bought Haifa-based Ubique and Lexington-based Databeam.

In 2000, an open source application and open standards-based protocol called Jabber was launched. Jabber servers could act as gateways to other IM protocols, reducing the need to run multiple clients. Multi-protocol clients such as Digsby,Pidgin, Trillian, Adium and Miranda can use any of the popular IM protocols by using additional local libraries for each protocol. IBM Lotus Sametime's November 2007 release added IBM Lotus Sametime Gateway support for XMPP.

Recently, many instant messaging services have begun to offer video conferencing features, Voice Over IP (VoIP) and web conferencing services. Web conferencing services integrate both video conferencing and instant messaging capabilities. Some newer instant messaging companies are offering desktop sharing, IP radio, and IPTV to the voice and video features.

The term "instant messenger" is a service mark of Time Warner[3] and may not be used in software not affiliated with AOL in the United States. For this reason, the instant messaging client formerly known as Gaim or gaim announced in April 2007 that they would be renamed "Pidgin"[4].

[edit] Cooperation

Standard free instant messaging applications offer functions like file transfer, contact lists, the ability to have similtaneous converstations etc. These may be all the functions that a small business needs but larger organisations will require more sophisticated applications that can work together. The solution to finding applications capable of this is to use enterprise versions of instant messaging applications. These include titles like Jabber, Lotus Sametime, Microsoft Office Communicator, etc., which are often integrated with other enterprise applications such as workflow systems. These enterprise applications, or Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), are built to certain constraints, namely storing data in a common format.

There have been several attempts to create a unified standard for instant messaging: IETF's SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and SIMPLE (SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions), APEX (Application Exchange), Prim (Presence and Instant Messaging Protocol), the open XML-based XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol), more commonly known as Jabber and OMA's (Open Mobile Alliance) IMPS (Instant Messaging and Presence Service) created specifically for mobile devices.

Most attempts at creating a unified standard for the major IM providers (AOL, Yahoo! and Microsoft) have failed and each continues to use its own proprietary protocol.

However, while discussions at IETF were stalled, Reuters head of collaboration services, David Gurle (the founder of Microsoft's Real Time Communication and Collaboration business), signed the first inter-service provider connectivity agreement on September 2003. This agreement enabled AIM, ICQ and MSN Messenger users to talk with Reuters Messaging counterparts and vice-versa against an access fee. Following this, Microsoft, Yahoo! and AOL came to a deal where Microsoft's Live Communication Server 2005 users would also have the possibility to talk to public instant messaging users. This deal established SIP/SIMPLE as a standard for protocol interoperability and established a connectivity fee for accessing public instant messaging clouds. Separately, on October 13, 2005 Microsoft and Yahoo! announced that by (the Northern Hemisphere) summer of 2006 they would interoperate using SIP/SIMPLE which is followed on December 2005 by the AOL and Google strategic partnership deal where Google Talk users would be able to talk with AIM and ICQ users provided they have an identity at AOL.

There are two ways to combine the many disparate protocols:

One way is to combine the many disparate protocols inside the IM client application.

The other way is to combine the many disparate protocols inside the IM server application. This approach moves the task of communicating to the other services to the server. Clients need not know or care about other IM protocols. For example, LCS 2005 Public IM Connectivity. This approach is popular in Jabber/XMPP servers however the so-called transport projects suffer the same reverse engineering difficulties as any other project involved with closed protocols or formats.

Some approaches, such as that adopted by the Sonork enterprise IM software or the Jabber/XMPP network or Winpopup LAN Messenger, allow organizations to create their own private instant messaging network by enabling them to limit access to the server (often with the IM network entirely behind their firewall) and administer user permissions. Other corporate messaging systems allow registered users to also connect from outside the corporation LAN, by using a secure firewall-friendly HTTPS based protocol. Typically, a dedicated corporate IM server has several advantages such as pre-populated contact lists, integrated authentication, and better security and privacy.

Some networks have made changes to prevent them from being utilized by such multi-network IM clients. For example, Trillian had to release several revisions and patches to allow its users to access the MSN, AOL, and Yahoo! networks, after changes were made to these networks. The major IM providers typically cite the need for formal agreements as well as security concerns as reasons for making these changes.

[edit] Mobile Instant Messaging

Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM) is a presence enabled messaging service that aims to transpose the desktop messaging experience to the usage scenario of being on the move. While several of the core ideas of the desktop experience on one hand apply to a connected mobile device, others do not: Users usually only look at their phone's screen â€" presence status changes might occur under different circumstances as happens at the desktop, and several functional limits exist based on the fact that the vast majority of mobile communication devices are chosen by their users to fit into the palm of their hand. Some of the form factor and mobility related differences need to be taken into account in order to create a really adequate, powerful and yet convenient mobile experience: radio bandwidth, memory size, availability of media formats, keypad based input, screen output, CPU performance and battery power are core issues that desktop device users and even nomadic users with connected network.

[edit] Friend-to-friend networks

Instant Messaging may be done in a Friend-to-friend network, in which each node connects to the friends on the friendslist. This allows for communication with friends of friends and for the building of chatrooms for instant messages with all friends on that network.

Emotions are often expressed in shorthand. For example; lol. But a movement is currently underway to be more accurate with the emotional expression. Real time reactions such as (chortle) (snort) (guffaw) or (eye-roll) are rapidly taking the place of acronyms.[citation needed]

[edit] Business application

Instant messaging has proven to be similar to personal computers, e-mail, and the WWW, in that its adoption for use as a business communications medium was driven primarily by individual employees using consumer software at work, rather than by formal mandate or provisioning by corporate information technology departments. Tens of millions of the consumer IM accounts in use are being used for business purposes by employees of companies and other organizations.

In response to the demand for business-grade IM and the need to ensure security and legal compliance, a new type of instant messaging, called "Enterprise Instant Messaging" ("EIM") was created when Lotus Software launched IBM Lotus Sametime in 1998. Microsoft followed suit shortly thereafter with Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging, later created a new platform called Microsoft Office Live Communications Server, and released Office Communications Server 2007 in October 2007. Both IBM Lotus and Microsoft have introduced federation between their EIM systems and some of the public IM networks so that employees may use a single interface to both their internal EIM system and their contacts on AOL, MSN, and Yahoo!. Current leading EIM platforms include IBM Lotus Sametime, Microsoft Office Communications Server, and Jabber XCP. In addition, industry-focused EIM platforms such as IMtrader from Pivot Incorporated, Reuters Messaging, and Bloomberg Messaging provide enhanced IM capabilities to financial services companies.

The adoption of IM across corporate networks outside of the control of IT organizations creates risks and liabilities for companies who do not effectively manage and support IM use. Companies implement specialized IM archiving and security products and services like those from Secure Computing, Akonix, SurfControl, and ScanSafe to mitigate these risks and provide safe, secure, productive instant messaging capabilities to their employees.

[edit] Practical Use in Enterprise

The popular embrace of IM technology for sharing information has quickly led to organizations adopting IM solutions for the perceived advantages that can be brought by it. As organizations are becoming more information based (McNurlin & Sprague, 2006, p.499) the need for effective knowledge sharing, team working and collaborative environments amongst employees has become vital, especially within more geographically dispersed teams.

Typically IM conversations tend to have a certain "character", they are often short and only cover one topic. Media-switching and multitasking are common throughout, however IM might also be used between established coworkers and friends for longer, more intermittent conversation. In their report of IM use at the workplace Nardi et al. (2000) identifies the four primary functions of IM which are often cited in other reports, These primary functions are:

Quick Questions and Clarifications

Coordinating and scheduling tasks

Coordinating impromptu social meetings

Keeping in touch with friends and family

IM is perhaps best suited to "Quick Questions and Clarifications" as this is the most often mentioned attribute in other reports. A user can "respond rapidly without the overhead of telephone or FTF interaction. For example, IDC reports, "Users see IM as a medium for quick, semi-permanent ‘flashes’ that beg a near-immediate response" (Isaacs et al., 2002). Nardi's second and third observations are enabled in part due to the "Presence Awareness" feature of IM clients in which the user knows who is "available". This is the most relevant for colleagues who share the same physical space as each other and even paves the way for other mediums to take up the task of communication e.g. F2F or Phone. The implication is that viable communication of any sort can in someway be encouraged through IM's "Presence Awareness" feature. (Issacs et al, 2002) supports this view, "IM in business might not be the main tool for of communication, it could just be the meeting point for another type of media e.g. conference calls.

Nardi's third and fourth observations focus on the social use of IM, which have also been widely publicized in other report. That IM is used for keeping in touch with friends and arranging social events has led some employers to believe that it is used primarily for this purpose. According to (Issacs et al, 2002) a market study found that "'Fear of losing employee productivity’ was the greatest concern of businesses in regards to instant messaging".

The study by (Issacs et al, 2002) goes on to suggest this fear is unfounded as it was found that on average "only 13% of conversations contained personal topics", and "only 6.4% were exclusively personal".

[edit] Review of Products

"IM solutions can typically be catagorised into two types: Enterprise Instant Messaging (EIM) and Consumer Instant Mesaging (CIM). Enterprise solutions use an internal IM server, however this isn't always feasible, particularly for smaller businesses with limited budgets. The second option, using a (CIM) provides the advantage of being inexpensive to implement and has little need for investing in new hardware or server software. However, in recent years open source IM clients such as Jabber have emerged that provide free EIM grade solutions. (Wikipedia,. 2008)

For corporate use encryption and conversation archiving are usually regarded as important features due to security concerns. Sometimes the use of different operating systems in organizations calls for the use of software that supports more than one platform. For example many software companies use Windows XP in administration departments but have software developers who use Linux.

Most people have had experience of using online chat and messaging over the internet whether it is with Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger, Skype or e-mail. One form of chat and messaging currently popular is Bebo. It is a non-corporate form of messaging which allows its user to create and maintain a social network. Libraries use chat applications and Morris Messenger is an application commonly used by them. This is a power based instant messenger, which uses Perl, SQL, and small Java. It accepts input from both staff and regular customers and saves important information in an SQL database built for the system.

[edit] Risks and liabilities

Although instant messaging delivers many benefits, it also carries with it certain risks and liabilities, particularly when used in workplaces. Among these risks and liabilities are:

Security risks (e.g. IM used to infect computers with spyware, viruses, trojans, worms)

Compliance risks

Inappropriate use

Intellectual property leakage

Crackers (malicious "hacker" or black hat hacker) have consistently used IM networks as vectors for delivering phishing attempts, "poison URL's", and virus-laden file attachments from 2004 to the present, with over 1100 discrete attacks listed by the IM Security Center[5] in 2004-2007. Hackers use two methods of delivering malicious code through IM: delivery of virus, trojan, or spyware within an infected file, and the use of "socially engineered" text with a web address that entices the recipient to click on a URL that connects him or her to a website that then downloads malicious code. Viruses, worms, and trojans typically propagate by sending themselves rapidly through the infected user's buddy list. An effective attack using a poison URL may reach tens of thousands of people in minutes when each person's buddy list receives messages appearing to be from a trusted friend. The recipients click on the web address, and the entire cycle starts again. Infections may range from nuisance to criminal, and are becoming more sophisticated each year.

In addition to the malicious code threat, the use of instant messaging at work also creates a risk of non-compliance to laws and regulations governing the use of electronic communications in businesses. In the United States alone there are over 10,000 laws and regulations related to electronic messaging and records retention.[6] The more well-known of these include the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, HIPAA, and SEC 17a-3. Clarification from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority ("FINRA") was issued to member firms in the financial services industry in December, 2007, noting that "electronic communications", "email", and "electronic correspondence" may be used interchangeably and can include such forms of electronic messaging as instant messaging and text messaging.[7] Changes to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, effective December 1, 2006, created a new category for electronic records which may be requested during discovery (law) in legal proceedings. Most countries around the world also regulate the use of electronic messaging and electronic records retention in similar fashion to the United States. The most common regulations related to IM at work involve the need to produce archived business communications to satisfy government or judicial requests under law. Many instant messaging communications fall into the category of business communications that must be archived and retrievable.

Organizations of all types must protect themselves from the liability of their employees' inappropriate use of IM. The informal, immediate, and ostensibly anonymous nature of instant messaging makes it a candidate for abuse in the workplace. The topic of inappropriate IM use became front page news in October 2006 when Congressman Mark Foley resigned his seat after admitting sending offensive instant messages of a sexual nature to underage former House pages from his Congressional office PC. The Mark Foley Scandal led to media coverage and mainstream newspaper articles warning of the risks of inappropriate IM use in workplaces. In most countries, corporations have a legal responsibility to ensure harassment-free work environment for employees. The use of corporate-owned computers, networks, and software to harass an individual or spread inappropriate jokes or language creates a liability for not only the offender but also the employer. A survey by IM archiving and security provider Akonix Systems, Inc. in March 2007 showed that 31% of respondents had been harassed over IM at work.[8] Companies now include instant messaging as an integral component of their policies on appropriate use of the World Wide Web, e-mail, and other corporate assets.

Within the company there is also the risk of employees using instant messaging to release confidential information and project details to an outside source. This issue is best controlled by a combination of written policy and technology. An organization's policies on use of IM in the workplace should be an integral part of the overall computing and network use policies, and should be published and communicated at least annually. In addition to written policy, organizations should implement "gateways" or IM security products to monitor content of inbound and outbound messages. Products from IM security providers (See section on IM security) typically allow administrators to set alerts and enforce policy (i.e. allow or block messages) based on keywords and regular expressions within instant messages.

Employees may also misuse IM to communicate on a personal level with friends and family. This is poor use of a business’s time and resources, as the employee’s effectiveness will most certainly decrease due to the added distractions. (Licari, J., May 2005). Businesses often use IM security products to monitor and archive IM conversations for the purpose of minimizing this type of productivity drain.

[edit] Security and archiving

In the early 2000s, a new class of IT security provider emerged to provide remedies for the risks and liabilities faced by corporations who chose to use IM for business communications. The IM security providers created new products to be installed in corporate networks for the purpose of archiving, content-scanning, and security-scanning IM traffic moving in and out of the corporation. Similar to the e-mail filtering vendors, the IM security providers focus on the risks and liabilities described above.

With rapid adoption of IM in the workplace, demand for IM security products began to grow in the mid-2000s. By 2007, the preferred platform for the purchase of security software had become the "appliance", according to IDC, who estimate that by 2008, 80% of network security products will be delivered via an appliance.[9]

[edit] User base

Note that many of the numbers listed in this section are not directly comparable, and some are speculative. Some instant messaging systems are distributed among many different instances and thus difficult to measure in total (e.g. Jabber). While some numbers are given by the owners of a complete instant messaging system, others are provided by commercial vendors of a part of a distributed system. Some companies may be motivated to inflate their numbers in order to increase advertisement earnings or to attract partners, clients, or customers. Importantly, some numbers are reported as the number of "active" users (without a shared standard of that activity), others indicate total user accounts, while others indicate only the users logged in during an instance of peak usage.

Service User count Date/source

AIM 53 million active September 2006

>100 million total January 2006

Jabber 40-50 million total January 2007, based on calculations of Jabber Inc

90 million total Based on calculations of Process-One: Process-One uses ejabberd as Jabber server software. If it is assumed that ejabberd has a 40% market share amongst public and private open source server deployments, there are 50 million users using open source servers. With Jabber Inc's numbers, this adds up to the 90 million number stated here.

eBuddy 35 million total October 2006, including 4 million mobile users

Windows Live Messenger 294 million active worldwide November 2007

Yahoo! Messenger 22 million total September 2006

QQ 20 million peak online (majority in China) 3 June 2006

221 million "active" (majority in China) 3 June 2006

IBM Lotus Sametime 17 million total (private, in enterprises) November 2007

ICQ 15 million active July 2006

Skype 12 million peak online February 2008

309 million total April 2008

Xfire 10 million total May 2008

MXit 7 million total (>560,000 outside of South Africa) 10 August 2007. Note that these users are part of the Jabber user base as MXit federates with the Jabber network.

Gadu-Gadu 5.6 million total June 2006

Paltalk 3.3 million unique visitors per month August 2006

IMVU 1 million total June 2007

Mail.ru Agent 1 million active (daily) September 2006

Meebo 1 million total October 2006

PSYC 1 million active (daily) (majority in Brazil) February 2007. Total count cannot be accurately estimated due to the decentralized nature of the protocol.

VZOchat >200,000 October 2007

[edit] IM Language

Users sometimes make use of internet slang or text speak to abbreviate common words or expressions in order to quicken conversations or to reduce keystrokes.

communication tchnology is associating surrealism with realism...and the fact it isnt removes the emotional conflict real communication ensues...

my advise is dont read wilkepdia...unless u understand the contxt of vocab..and in brief txt

IM

LAN MSG

TXT MSG

EMAIL

is all a way of diverting real time communication without havn to worry bout the consequence of action.

And although protocol exists to main security...often esp emails and IM are the way to let in unwantd trojans, viruses, cookines etc that can cause the pc corruption, and mis use of data protection

have fun

Messaging information on security and on how to use it..

history will allow you to see your past conversations word for word.

security will block viruses from people through emails and IM'ing and the rest is just bull ****

This text contains the evolution of computer to computer messaging and the adaptation of security features.

you should give every 1 ten points for taking half a day to read it all - i stoped after 1 st paragraph !!!..............

No offense, but you shouldn't be asking other people to do your work for you.

hahahahaha you're funny

when you type it, the recipient sees it, and vice versa

are you mad? i am not reading all that.

lol yeah right

need more details please

I'm not reading all this.

Is that a question or are you writing a book ?
