Ok can someone explain to me why?

Making sure you have properly inflated tires is a bad thing? I mean it's not like Obama said that's his energy policy, he didn't, I've heard the speech. That said why prior to his statement did a GOP congressmann have the same suggestion on his website?

On his website, GOP Congressman Mike Rogers encourages visitors to improve their gas mileage and fuel costs by making sure that that the tires on their cars are fully inflated. It is a rational plan, he freely admits, and an effective way to help constituents save a few bucks.

"There are certain things that we as individuals can do to try and lower our costs," Rogers said on Monday. "And inflating your tires is a good thing."

The problem is that Sen. Barack Obama has also encouraged drivers to inflate their tires. And in this hyper-political environment -- when the Republican Party is handing out tire gauges to mock the Illinois Democrat as out of touch on energy needs -- Rogers now has to criticize the Democratic nominee for backing the same position.

So what did Rogers come up with? A fairly lame rationale, that tire efficiency is an appropriate proposal if it comes from a mere member of Congress but something unbecoming of a presidential candidate.

"If he is going to be President of the United States and talking about energy policy, I'm not sure inflating tires is where he should spend his time," Rogers said on an RNC conference call. "It is a great way to fill a few minutes in a speech that won't really have the impact on the American people that we need to. Again, it is one of those very populist things that, instead of being a service as it was intended on sites like mine, it becomes part of his energy policy. And that is a sham on the American public. It is not an energy policy."

Of course, Obama never said it was an energy policy. A simple line from an 8,000-word speech, his call for drivers to inflate their tires actually echoed similar calls from such "populist figures" as Sen. Joseph Lieberman, Florida Gov. Charlie Christ, and NASCAR.

Better still WHY has a GOP member ENDORSED Obama's energy policy?

Obama is correct. According to theautochannel.com, , 2.8 billion gallons of gas is wasted by U.S. drivers each year simply because they're driving on under-inflated tires.

Unfortunately, through the propaganda of the fear and smear right wingers, they have tried to portray this one little sentence of Obama's as his entire energy policy. It is truly baffling that so many people believe the lies........

Inflating your tires is good advice, but I don't need Obama (or any other politician) to tell me to do that.

He said to inflate your tires as an alternative to drilling, so yes it did look like that was his solution

my owner's manuel in my glove box told me to do that long before obama had an epiphany.

I am going to go out on a limb here, and guess you are not old enough to remember Jimmy Carters Presidency. It was a low point in American History. Petroleum was expensive (in real terms, not like now, when, in inflation adjusted dollars it is actually pretty cheap), Gas was being rationed, inflation, interest and unemployment were thru the roof. In other words times were tough. And then Jimmy Carter decides to go on National TV, and rather than propose ANY bold maneuvers, or display ANYTHING that could be mistaken for leadership, he told us all to "get used to it", turn down our thermostats and "put on a sweater". Okay? Get the picture?

The next year a guy comes along and promises to end the Cold War, and re-ignite the American Dream, and bring us all back to the America that half a dozen generations fought and died for, to restore that "SHINING CITY ON THE HILL". I think that was a 40+ State Landslide victory for Ronald Reagan.

So, now, Americans are insecure about the housing market, concerned about international terrorism, and having a hard time dealing with increased food costs coupled with 4 dollar gas. Along comes the New Messiah, and his best answer is to check the air in my tires? Yeah, I need this yutz running my country.....

Americans do not vote for people who offer band-aids for arterial bleeding. We prefer our leaders to lead, and our thinkers to think in actual IDEAS.

Honestly, however you feel about drilling in ANWR, at least it is an attempt to solve a real problem with a real idea.

Yes I can explain it but you are to engrossed in the Obama talking points to read it!

Anyway for others benefit, Over inflation is dangerous and bad for tires. Most cars already have the tires properly inflated if not the owner is stupid. But Obama thinks you are!

It would not save the average driver more than 5 dollars a year even if they were underinflated.

Edit: You are 51 and remember the Carter days? So why do you think Obama has the answer. He used more fuel on his European trip than you do in a lifetime! For What? to down America in Germany and say "See I was in Iraq"! No I don't like his solutions as they smell of corruption! I don't see him calling for wind farms, Nuclear Energy, using oil shale. building more Hydro dams! No he won't because he is beholding to the Envronmentalists and Move On!

He wants Govt. control and that is not what the Govt. is for! Cut taxes on oil and open up drilling and oil shale, approve some nuclear plants and go against Ted Kennedy and approve the wind farms. That will bring the price of oil down and reduce the use of it as well!

It's political jabbing. Stop taking it too serious. You'll see more ridiculous campaigning like that in the next few months, too. We're coming down to the wire, and Obama and McCain are going to hit wherever they can to win a vote or two.

This whole Tire Inflation issue is starting to spin out of control with both sides now. Stop it, the both of you!
